WIMP and Post-WIMP

WIMP stands for Windows, Icons, Menu, Pointers

WIMP: Windows , Icons , Menu and pointers. — e.g. PC

Post-WIMP: Mostly Touchscreen — e.g Ipad.


Application Software

Software that a user need to make use of computer system and to carry out a specific task.

e.g. Spreadsheet (Productivity) | Email (Communication) | Video Player (Entertainment)

Application software talks to the operating system, allowing it to interact with the hardware.

The hardware processes and sends information to the operating system which talks directly to the application software. This process is then repeated while software is in use.

  1. Power On, Hardware
  2. Loads the BIOS Program located in the ROM.
  3. BIOS, the Firmware, checks if every hardware is working fine.
  4. BIOS loads the Operating System.
  5. And the Operating System takes over, to open Application Software.

System Software

Responsible for managing hardware and other software in a computer.
